Reading has at least two long established teams that pre-date our climate repair club.
Building Retrofitting: Reading Draughtbusters is a voluntary organisation which helps low income households to draughtproof their buildings. This cuts their energy usage for heating and thus saves them money (sometimes substantially) and reduces their carbon emissions. Draughtbusters shares its knowhow and this has spread to a few other towns.
Rooftop Solar: Reading Community Energy Society. Does not appear to share its knowhow.
Reading’s solar electricity generation capacity seems relatively low compared to neighbouring areas and the UK as a whole. What is holding back Reading’s solar installations? What’s being done about it? Which other towns have been brilliant at it? Explorers are needed to answer the questions.
If you know of other groups that know how to reduce carbon emissions – and actually do so – please post a reply on this page to put us in touch with them.
